Four Things To Ask Yourself Before Starting A Web Series by Felicia Day
I get many many emails every week about people who are wanting to make web series. They want advice, which I would love to give, but there’s no way that I can address everyone individually or I’d have no time to keep up with my own obligations. So I’m going to post an occasional blog on the topic, because it’s important to me to help people make their stories.

How To Make A Web Series by Tom Cruise Online
Loosely speaking, a web series (also known as web originals, web shows, webisodes, and online series), is a show in episodic form released online or, in some cases, across various mobile platforms. The series is created to live on the web, and given the nature of online viewership, individual shows within a web series tend to run between 3 minutes and 6 minutes, with an entire season, from beginning to end, averaging an hour to an hour and a half. That’s both the appeal and complexity of the industry: Trying to say something engaging in matter of minutes. The hook, however, must come even sooner than that. According to the Youtube Creator Playbook, viewers decide within 15 seconds whether they are going to spend the next few minutes with your web series, let alone the next 90.

Tips For Marketing A Web Series: Behind The Scenes With Streamy Award-Winning Series, Compulsions
As Web TV entertainment grows, so does the number of Web series choices, which is fantastic, but overwhelming. Marketing a new show in order to help people find it is challenging and can be quite expensive. But how else will millions of Web users discover it? Over the past two years I’ve had the privilege of being immersed in the Web TV content creator community through my involvement with marketing and media relations for both Streamy Awards and with International Academy of Web Television, as well as writing for Tubefilter News. This post is my way of giving back to a community that I admire, and that is at the forefront of driving Web-centric digital entertainment from a novelty to a mainstream consumer experience.

What Happens If Your Web Series Doesn't Hit It Big? by Liz Shannon Miller
The stories that tend to get the most coverage in the web series world are success stories — shows signing deals, partnering with big companies or finding new outlets for distribution. Independent creators working in this space are classic underdogs, attempting to overcome obscurity and low budgets with sheer talent and determination, and it’s exciting to see them break through. What we don’t talk about, however, are the folks who don’t succeed at breaking through to the next level.

9 Things Web Series Producers Should Know by The Screening Room
We watch a lot of films and web series here in the Screening Room, but since we’ll never manage to watch everything, every so often we try to reach into the community and find out what the filmmakers and creative types who produce all of this great content are watching. While we’re there, we try to pick their brain about another topic near and dear to their hearts. This month we tracked down nine web series creators and asked them, What is one thing you have learned about creating a web series that you wish you had known when you started?

How To Lose Everything on Kickstarter and Still Raise a Production Budget by Joe Wilson (Creator, Vampire Mob)
You know those stories about success on Kickstarter? Like the one about the final push that got a project over the hump at the last second or the project that hit their goal and kept going to raise more than that proposed budget? This is not one of those stories. This is a story about a failed Kickstarter campaign that kept going and succeeded independently. No Kickstarter, No IndieGoGo, just a web site and Twitter. I make an Indie TV series called "Vampire Mob." Indie TV is kind of like Indie Filmmaking, stories made without a television network and distributed directly to an audience via the internet.

7 Things You Need To Know Before Launching Your Crowdfunding Campaign by Alon Nir
Interest in crowdfunding has been on the rise in recent years, and in the last couple of months we’ve seen two major crowdfunding milestones boosting its appeal even further. First, President Obama signed the JOBS Act, effectively legalising equity crowdfunding in the US. Second, a single project raised, through crowdfunding alone, over US$10 million. With new projects being added to Sponsume everyday, we thought it would be interesting to interview users whose projects made it to Sponsume’s Hall of Fame, and share with the readers the lessons drawn from these highly successful crowdfunding campaigns.
